The Art of Living – Great Living Starts Here

When you give your word, you follow through. When you offer help it is with no expectations, but because you genuinely care about others. You believe there are things bigger than yourself and all of us working together can accomplish much greater things than individually. Sometimes there is nothing better than seeing smiling faces of true contentment. If these resonate to you and are fundamental requirements of your life and belief system, Hartsville offers this, surrounded with distinction and our genuine kindness for which South Carolinians are proud to be known.

  • This section of our Online Job Tour is meant to share with you how we live and to introduce you to more neighbors that play a role in contributing to our making Hartsville what it is.  And here we will show you where the closest state park is located, where the country clubs are, and where we shop if we want to buy a 50” TV.

We are a town of under 10,000 people that seems to have everything. That’s because we believe we do (everything that really matters, that is). Our location close to Florence, which is a retail and commercial hub of our region, and being about an hour to Columbia or Charlotte, 90 miles to the beach, and a few hours to the Appalachian Mountains, makes desired amenities or recreation of almost any kind accessible. Does all this make Hartsville, South Carolina the center of the world? Maybe we’ll soon be the center of yours!

More Neighbors Who make Life in Hartsville great!

“My wife and I were looking for a wholesome ‘hometown’ for our 9 children, who range from ages 21 to 3. The people of Hartsville are just friendly. On our visits here my entire family noticed it, even my children commented on it.  I would say the people here are proud of their community, and genuine.” – Brad Nycum

“My neighbors are filled with southern hospitality, kind, giving, and full of sweet tea! They go out of their way to help others and manage to do it by not being intrusive.” – Katrina Hutto

“If you chose Hartsville, you will love the ‘family feel’ this town offers.  There will be many, many opportunities to become involved.  As opposed to other place we have lived, I have a sense of ownership in this town.  I volunteer on many committees and have made many friends doing it.” – Leigh Ann Bizzell

“Hartsville is a small southern town but it has always had a history since our founding of being progressive and not waiting around to see what other towns are doing.” – Phil Gardner

“Hartsville has a lot of community events, friendly people, and enjoys its deep history and nostalgia. You can’t go anywhere without getting a greeting or friendly wave from someone you don’t even know. Our neighbors went out of their way to welcome us (when our family moved here).” – Howard Tripp

“There is nothing more beautiful than Home Ave. and College Ave. in the spring when all the flowers are in bloom. A walk around Kalmia Gardens is all one needs to be sold on Hartsville.” – Elayne T. Mahn

On Arts in Hartsville
with local thespians

“There are many cultures represented in Hartsville, which is unsuspecting for a town of our smaller size and is another feature that makes Hartsville so unique.  This is largely due to our being a college town, the SC Governors School for Science and Mathematics, and Sonoco, which is a $4 billion company located here.” – Kathy Dunlap

“A great advantage of Hartsville it is economically a great place to live.  Housing, utilities, gas and groceries are less than larger cities.  You can also go home for lunch since the drive is only 5 to 10 minutes – I love to go home during the middle of the day to rejuvenate for the second half.” – Deborah Griggs
